Freelance Graphic Designer (Election Cycle, U.S.-Based)
Who We Are
The Campaign Workshop is a fully remote company made up of fun and quirky political and advocacy professionals. We help progressive nonprofits, labor unions, and advocacy groups to develop new strategies, create digital ads, design direct mail, deliver training, and develop content.
We build award-winning, strategically driven campaigns for our clients. For samples of our work, please visit our website. Also, we have written extensively on our blog and in our e-books.
We are committed to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, and we’re working to build an actively anti-racist organization. We’re working to create a company where everyone can show up fully as themselves, engage directly with our identities and biases, and work together to create inclusive and equitable systems.
What You’ll Do
In advance of the election cycle, we are actively building our freelance bench and are looking for designers who can begin taking on projects immediately. This role requires flexibility and responsiveness, including evening and weekend availability during peak periods.
In this role, you’ll design bold, effective visuals and produce high-quality print and digital materials using Adobe Creative Cloud. You’ll work closely with the Art Director and the Account team while managing your own workflow to meet deadlines and deliverables across multiple print and digital projects. Collaboration with cross-functional teams is essential to support campaign and advocacy efforts.
Who You Are
This role is designed for experienced freelance designers who can integrate quickly and deliver high-quality work with minimal oversight. Most successful candidates will bring agency experience and a track record of work in progressive politics, advocacy, nonprofits, or similar spaces.
The ideal candidate will meet the following requirements:
- Expertise in design tools. Strong proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and experience designing within Canva. Ability to create, adapt, and export assets for use across Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, Excel). Familiarity with Creatopy is a plus.
- Ownership & accountability. Ready to take ownership of work from day one. You’ll be trusted with meaningful responsibility, managing your own projects while collaborating closely with the team. You proactively communicate, ask questions when needed, and incorporate feedback to continuously strengthen your work.
- Highly organized & solutions-oriented. Able to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously while meeting tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment. You anticipate challenges, problem-solve efficiently, and maintain strong attention to detail across all deliverables.
- Clear, proactive communicator. You communicate effectively with team members to interpret design needs and bring client stories to life across print and digital formats. You understand that timely, direct communication—including hopping on a call when needed—is critical to keeping work on track.
- Deeply committed to racial justice and all forms of equity. You bring awareness of how your identities shape your perspective and actively contribute to building a more inclusive and equitable workplace.
While not every qualification is required, we’re seeking experienced freelance designers who can quickly integrate into our workflow, take ownership of projects, and consistently deliver strong, thoughtful design.
What You’ll Gain
- You’ll make an impact. You’ll be on the frontlines of advancing progressive causes, contributing to high-visibility projects and producing work that makes a real impact.
- A collaborative, high-performing team. You’ll work alongside a small, experienced team that values strong design, clear communication, and mutual respect. We trust our freelancers to deliver great work and integrate seamlessly into our process.
- Opportunities to build your portfolio. You’ll gain experience across a range of campaign and advocacy projects—from concept through execution—strengthening your portfolio with thoughtful, strategic design work.
- You’ll love working with us. We value professionalism, responsiveness, and clear communication. We respect your time, expect ownership of your work, and prioritize a working environment where collaboration is efficient and supportive.
